Our officially unofficial first Performance

So this isn't really with To the Sky. But I wrote it, and Willow critiqued me so.... Am I am in it. And I gave Willow a lead so.... I guess I could classify it as a sort of performance. Actually it is only a skit. I wrote it today for my youth group to perform at the Christmas Cantada here in Newcastle. So I suppose I could post it. Tell me what you think! And Willow, you better like it! :P (She hasn't actually read it yet :) ) P.S. WIllow, you get to be Jessa. I am going to be Bethany.

The Christmas Gift by Sage

Jessa: (very whiny) Moooom….. Why don’t they ever play any good Christmas carols? (Pulls off head phones) I want to hear Silver Bells or Deck the Halls! I am sick and tired of listening to Jesus songs! (sighs)

Mom: Sweetie, Jesus is the Reason for the Season! Why would you say that?

Jessa: Yeah, I know, but you would think they could play a decent song once in a while!

Mom: <sighs>

Jessa: And Christmas lights? Why doesn’t anyone use pretty ones anymore? The white icicle ones! All I ever see are those hideous colored ones!

Mom: Jessa, why don’t you start being grateful for what you have? (Looking through mail and Jessa snatches a magazine from her)

Jessa: (opens magazine) Hey! Look at this! I want this for Christmas. It’s this cute sweater. Look, Mom! It’s only $59.99! It’s 20 dollars off!

Mom: And that is a good deal?!?!

Jessa: Well… Maybe not. What about this one? It’s only $49.99!

Mom: Sorry,  Jessa. I’m not going to spent 50 or 60 dollars on a sweater that I could get for 20 online.

Jessa: Christmas is only 2 days away! Nothing comes in the mail this quick!

Mom: Well you better get that right out of your head then.

Jessa: You’re so mean! I can’t believe you! Christmas is all about presents!

Mom: While I’m being mean, I suppose I might as well tell you I signed us up to volunteer at the Soup Kitchen.

Jessa: YOU WHAT? ON CHRISTMAS???

Everyone freezes
<Christmas Tree and Presents Brought out by scene changers>

Narrator: Jessa appears to have some problems. What do you think?

Mom: Merry Christmas, Jessa!

Jessa; Merry Christmas, Mom!
Mom: Let’s open your presents so we can head over to the Soup Kitchen.

Jessa: <groans> You’re still making me go?

Mom: I signed you up, and you will be going!

<Everyone freezes. Scene Changers bring out 2 tables and fold up chairs as well as a pots/ bowls set on the side>
Narrator: Jessa is in for a big change. She just doesn’t know it yet.
(Mrs. Pattington and Bethany enter. Homeless (Luke, Jo/Joe, Bay, and Sophie) enter and sit down)

Mrs. Pattington: Hello, Mrs. Benton, Jessa. This is Bethany. She is also helping us today.

Mom: Hi, Mrs. Pattington. Nice to meet you, Bethany! This is my daughter, Jessa. She looks about your age.

Mrs. Pattington: Bethany, why don’t you show Jessa around? You’ve helped here enough to know your way around.

Bethany: Sure thing, Mrs. Paddington! Come on, Jessa. I’ll introduce you to some of the people who have come here for Christmas Dinner.

Jessa: (Laughs) So did your Mom make you come too?

Bethany: (shocked) Of course not! I want to help. These people do not have anyone else who cares about them! (More gently) They can’t have their own feast. Most of them don’t even have anywhere to live, let alone money to get themselves something to eat!

Jessa: Well, if they would quite being so lazy and get a JOB maybe they wouldn’t have to eat here!

Bethany: Come here a minute. I want to introduce you to someone. (Walks over to Luke)

Bethany: Hello, Luke. This is Jessa. She is here to help today. She is having a hard time understanding why you can’t get a job. Would you care to explain?

Luke: I don’t mind. Employers do not want homeless people working for them. They think that we will steal from them and skip shifts. They rarely hire someone who can’t provide an address. I want a job, and I have been trying and trying, but no one will give me a chance!

Jessa: (looks confused) But… That’s so dumb! You’re capable of working!

Bethany: I want you to meet another person, okay?

Jessa: Umm… Alright.

Bethany: (Walks over to Sophie) Hello, Sophie.

Sophie: (Barely moves) Hi

Bethany: Sophie has schizophrenia. She lives with special care at the Mission.

Jessa: But, doesn’t she have any family?

Bethany: Not that care about her. She is all alone. Her family ignores her because she is so different.
Most of them wish she wasn’t a part of their family. No one ever visits her.

We’ll see you later, okay Sophie?

Jessa: Who is that? (Points to Bay)

Bethany: That is Bay. She was disowned by her family. She came to us about 2 weeks ago.

Jessa: Her family kicked her out 2 weeks before Christmas???

Bethany: Makes you mad, huh?

Jessa: (silent)

Bethany: Hey Bay! Come here a sec!

Bay: (approaches) Hey! What’s up, Bethany?

Bethany: This is Jessa. She is helping out today.

Bay: Nice to meet ya, Jessa.

Jessa: What did you do?

Bethany: Uh.. Sorry. She doesn’t understand why people are here. I told her that you were disowned. I hope you don’t mind.

Bay: Of course not. My mom was sick of me, and to be perfectly frank, I like it here better. At least there aren’t any drugs.

Jessa: Drugs?

Bay: Both of my parents are into them. My parents. I guess they were sick of Goody Two Shoes living with them. One night they tried to force me to use, and I refused. They told my I wasn’t part of their family and told me to get out of here.

Jessa: But, can’t the cops do anything?

Bay: Not without a warrant.

Jessa: That’s not right!

Bay: Right or not, it’s true.

Bethany: See ya later, Bay.

Bay: See ya!

Bethany: And of course, there are some people who take advantage of our program here. Joe is one such example. He is not grateful for anything. He pretty much lives off of welfare and does not try to get a job. We do our best to help him, but we don’t let him get super comfortable. He is what most people think of when you hear, “Homeless.”

Joe: (Walks up) When do we eat? You sure aren’t very efficient! I am HUNGRY! Don’t you care?

Bethany: It’s cooking Joe. About an hour.

Joe: AN HOUR! Don’t you care that I haven’t eaten yet?

Bethany: Why didn’t you come to breakfast?

Joe: I was sleeping.

Bethany: (gives Jessa ‘that look’) Come on, Jessa. Let’s go see if they need any help in the kitchen. (Joe walks away & Jessa and Bethany walk to the center)

What do you think?

Jessa: I.. I didn’t know that there were people like Sophie, Bay, and Luke. I thought everyone was like Joe!

Mrs. Paddington: (off stage) Bethany! Help! I just spilled water all over the floor in here!

Bethany: Uh-oh. Let’s go.

Jessa: Um. I’ll be there in a sec. Okay?

Bethany: Alright.

Jessa: Dear Lord. Thank you so much for showing me how wrong I was about those less fortunate than me. Please help me to be content with what You gave me, and to help those who have not been so richly blessed. Thanks again, Lord, for Your Son, and His Gift. Please help me to spread the Good News, and to spread the gifts you give around. Thanks for reminding me of the True Meaning of Christmas! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
Now, let’s go clean up that mess! (Exits)

The End

Not Bad, considering I wrote it in 2 hrs! I think..... :P
I can't figure out how to shrink my type......
So Bye bye Now....

Oh no! Now I'm BOLD.

I am going to sign off.....

In a time of tragedy....

So my family has experienced a house fire on Father's day this summer. We were out of the house for about 3 months, but fortunately, there was very little structural damage, and we are home again. Unfortunately, my original manuscript of Oliver Wisht was thrown away by the cleaning ladies... which is rather upsetting because it was NOT burned or smoke damaged. Fortunately again though, I still have the outline from which I wrote, and a part of it typed up on the computer and saved. But as of right now, we are down to 2 plays ):

Also, sorry about all the fortunately/unfortunatelys(:

Sorry, Guys!

Sorry we have not been keeping you updated! A close family member of Willow's is ill, and I (Sage) may be moving. This is why we have not said much lately. Please keep Willow and her family in your prayers, and myself and family as well! Although, if you are pinched for time, pray for Willow. Hers is much more serious than mine!

Sage again(:

Soo... I finished my first play! See the previous post for a brief description. The name contest is still on!

Saturday, May 18, 2013

From Sage...

Okay, so I am so horrible. Super-star Willow is going on her 3rd play, and I have yet to finish my first. It is a drama about a young couple, Asher and Savannah Weatherfield, whose baby gets kidnapped. They think it may have been Ariyana, the young woman downstairs, whose child and husband were recently killed in a car accident. In the end, it turns out that it was Savannah's mentally unstable brother, Oliver, who felt as though the baby was stealing her from him. I got hung up on the climax scene, so I am going to write what happens after it, and we are going to start practice and go from there. This way I will know better how to write it, as I will know who is playing who. Based on this very, Very, VERY simple version of this, does anyone have any ideas for a name? Consider it a Contest!

A new play...?

Hey!

Well, now that I have finished my first play, The Two Princesses of Carawyn, I'm starting on another one, based on Saint George. (You know, the guy who killed the dragon and saved that princess from getting eaten?) Anyway, please remember--if you live in or around Newcastle, and just LOVE acting, we would LOVE to have you in our troupe (or just a play)!! :)

Thanks again.

Auditions

We are working on raising interest in joining To The Sky. The general rules are ages 8-18, with few exceptions. Please note that just because you are a part of this troupe, does not mean you will be in every single performance, nor do you need to be a permanent part of the troupe to be in a performance.
                                                                   ~Love, as always <3

From Willow...

Are you an actor? Do you live in or around Newcastle, Wyoming, U.S.A.? If so, please keep in touch with us. We would love to have you in a play!

Performance Update

Instead of having just a performance of The Two Princesses of Carawyn, the To The Sky Theatrical Troupe is considering doing a double feature night. Details to come.
